Help Us Improve City Services: Share Your Water Service Experience
By Michael Del Prete | Executive Director Of the AZREIA
At AZREIA, our mission is to make real estate investing in Arizona easier and more successful. Unfortunately, many members are finding that dealing with the City of Phoenix Water Services is becoming a major obstacle instead of a simple step.
We’ve heard reports of delayed service starts and stops, confusing processes, misrouted bills, and a lack of direct communication. These problems cost landlords time, frustrate tenants, and make it harder to do business. Compared to APS, SRP, or Southwest Gas where service changes can be handled in minutes Phoenix Water is falling behind.
AZREIA is stepping up. Here’s the plan:
Gather Member Stories – We need to understand the scope of the problem.
Build a Case for Change – Using your feedback, we’ll prepare an advocacy brief to share with city leadership.
Push for Solutions – We’ll call for simple fixes: direct phone support, faster service turnarounds, and the elimination of unnecessary red tape.
Keep You Informed – We’ll report back on responses and progress so you know where things stand.
How You Can Help (5–10 minutes)
Please email a brief summary of your experience to [email protected] with the subject line “Water Service – Member Story.” Helpful details include:
Type of request: Start, stop, billing change, name change, etc.
Dates & timelines: When you submitted the request and when (or if) it was completed.
Documentation the City required: For example, if you were asked for a deed, lease, or assessor registration. (We are not asking you to send these documents only to describe if the City required them.)
Outcome & impact: Did a tenant move-in get delayed? Did incorrect billing or late fees occur? How much time did it cost you?
Attempts to resolve: Online submissions, phone calls, emails, or ticket numbers.
Comparisons: How long does it take for APS, SRP, or Southwest Gas to do the same thing?
Your suggestion: What’s one change that would have made the process smoother?
Why It Matters
Every delay, extra form, or misstep at the utility level creates real costs for landlords and These problems are not isolated, they're systemic. By collecting and presenting member experiences, AZREIA can push for reforms that restore accountability and efficiency to basic city services.
Your input is critical. Please take a few minutes to share your story at [email protected]. Together, we can push for the changes needed to make Phoenix a place where housing providers and the residents they serve can succeed.
Happy Investing,
Michael Del Prete
